Does Ear Pinning Work and is it Successful?
Pinning back the ears is known as an otoplasty or pinnaplasty. It’s usually done on children and young teenagers, although adults can also have it done.
Ear correction surgery is cosmetic surgery to alter the size or shape of the ears, or pin them back if they stick out.
Mr Fitton prefers to wait until the cartilage in the patient’s ears has stabilized, which typically happens by the time patients are around five years old. Many parents take advantage of this fact to schedule ear-pinning or other types of otoplasty when their child is between five and seven years old.

How long does Ear Surgery take to perform?
Cosmetic ear surgery typically takes one to two hours. For adults it can be performed under local or general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. However, earlobe repair can generally be performed under local anesthesia and may take less time than a full otoplasty procedure.
When can I go back to work or exercise after Ear Surgery?
Adults can go back to work approximately 5 days after surgery, depending upon the occupation. You may resume full social activities in 5-10 days. Avoid any activity in which the ear might be bent for approximately a month. It is advisable to avoid contact sport or swimming front crawl for 3 months after your ear surgery.How long is the recovery time for Ear Surgery?
At the end of the ear surgery a special head bandage is applied to maintain the position of the ears. This should stay on until it is removed at your first clinic review (10 days). Other than some discomfort, which may last for a day or so after the surgery, recovery is good.
The healing time for ear surgery is often less than expected and the results are worth the wait. While swelling should be completely gone after four to six weeks, your healing will continue for the entire first year.
Wearing a light fitting head bandage at night will prevent the ear from folding forward. Expect the swelling and bruising to take up to 6 weeks to resolve.

What are the the risks of Ear Surgery?
To perform ear surgery a portion of skin is removed from behind the ear and the cartilage of the ear is reshaped and set back. Care must be taken to obtain symmetry and avoid irregular or uneven folds in the cartilage. As with any operation there is a small chance of bleeding and even more rarely infection.
