2023 Plastic Surgery Procedure Trends

New Trends in 2023 Plastic Surgery Procedures

Between the increasing variety of procedures that are available, and the growing cultural acceptance of plastic or reconstructive surgery, it’s not surprising that more people are choosing plastic surgery than ever before.

While certain procedures have maintained their popularity for decades, other, newer procedures are rapidly growing in popularity.

As a licensed Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon by the GMC, Antony Fitton is offering insight into what the upcoming trends for plastic surgery are for 2023.

All of the tried and tested staples of plastic surgery will continue to remain popular in 2023, but there is still plenty of room for some new, popular procedure trends to emerge.

“I just wanted to thank you (and your team) for the life-changing result of my surgery.”

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, which is commonly referred to as ‘a nose job’, is the most popular facial plastic surgery procedure.

This surgical reshaping of the nose can reduce the size of a larger nose as well as reshape the tissue and bone. The reshaping of the nose during rhinoplasty removes bumps, narrows the nostrils, and reshapes the tip to be a smaller, more desirable size.

In addition to the aesthetic benefits of rhinoplasty, many people choose to have this procedure for health benefits. A nose job can be a helpful solution to fixing a broken nose, repairing a deviated septum, and helping patients breathe more easily, especially during sleep, which is why it is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures for 2023.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck,or Abdominoplasty, is a body contouring procedure that will continue to be widely sought after in 2023.

During a tummy tuck, excess skin is removed from the belly, then stretched and damaged muscles are repaired. The end result is a firmer, flatter midsection.

While this procedure is most commonly performed on women after having children, this is also becoming increasingly popular in men and women who have experienced significant weight loss.

This allows patients to remove the sagging skin and damaged tissue, and feel more confident after their weight loss journey. As the efforts to implement healthier lifestyles increase in 2023, more and more people will be drawn to the idea of a tummy tuck procedure.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, or a breast enlargement, is the most popular plastic surgery procedure performed.

There are many reasons why women choose to have this surgery. Reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy and correcting asymmetrical breasts are common reasons for breast augmentation. However, the most common reason continues to be to increase the size and volume of the breasts.

Breast enlargement is a highly customizable procedure. Patients not only choose the size and placement they want for their implants, but they can also work with their plastic surgeon to determine whether silicone or saline is the best option for them.

This customisation allows women to achieve their body confidence goals.

Liposuction

Liposuction or body contouring, is almost as common as breast augmentation. In this procedure, stubborn fat deposits are removed to give a more flattering shape. This procedure can be performed on several areas of the body, including:

    • Face
    • Chin
    • Arms
    • Axilla
    • Abdomen
    • Hips
    • Thighs
    • Knees
    • Ankles

Using a small specially designed cannula (hollow tube of the diameter of a straw) inserted through small incisions in the skin, fat is gently removed by attaching the cannula to a suction device.

The liposuction procedure is facilitated by using a power-assistance device which improves the efficiency of fat removal leaving the patient with a smoother silhouette.

Facelift

Facelift surgery is an operation designed to rejuvenate the face and neck.

This will result in a tighter and smoother look and more youthful appearance. A facelift is an operation to tighten and lift any loose skin and soft tissues.

Any surgery above the eyes is called a brow-lift. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, or a nose job.

A facelift done well, should enhance the youthful appearance of the patient. Sutures are often removed five to 10 days after the procedure, but recovery will take several weeks.

Eyelid Lift

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, is surgery aimed at rejuvenating the upper or lower, or both, eyelids.

Advancing age, smoking and excessive sun exposure cause laxity of the skin, muscle and other layers of the eyelids. This is marked by loss of normal skin elasticity, lax orbicularis oculi muscle and bulging of orbital fat.

The muscle in the eyes become weak and floppy and cannot retain the fat of the eye socket in its normal position: the eyelids bulge. This makes you appear more tired especially in the morning. These changes are called dermatochalasis. Too much sagging skin can also block your vision.

A blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery removes redundant skin and muscle and relocates, re-drapes or removes some of the orbital fat.

Transgender Surgery

Female to Male Chest Reconstruction aims to change the characteristics of a female chest to that of a specific gender identity such as a male or a non-binary individual.

The principles of Female to Male Chest Reconstruction are to remove the breast tissue, obliterate the breast fold, site the nipple in the correct anatomical position and to re-drape the skin.

Female to Male Chest Reconstruction is best performed on someone who is in the best physical shape. On this basis patients will be advised to have stopped smoking and, if necessary, loose weight. A high BMI increase risks of surgery, in general, but specifically the surgical outcomes are far better in those who have attained an ideal weight. Medical conditions such as diabetes may influence surgery.

All patients will undergo some form of pre-operative assessment, and we may need you to engage with your general practitioner to optimise any medications.

Male Plastic Surgery

As plastic surgery is becoming less stigmatised, clinics have noticed men embracing the idea of plastic surgery more than ever before.

Some of the plastic surgery procedures that men request most often include:

    • Gynecomastia (reduction of the male breast tissue)
    • Rhinoplasty (nose job)
    • Chin augmentation
    • Liposuction
    • Eyelid rejuvenation

More men are seeking plastic surgery to help them feel more confident about advancing in their careers and competing in the workplace.

Plastic Surgery Financing

Plastic surgery can cost more than £15,000. However, some patients may not have the full amount on hand to pay for their procedure all in one go. Instead, they may need plastic surgery financing.

For instance, patients can take advantage of finance options and spread the payments to pay for their procedure/s in smaller monthly installments over a longer period of time.

This is available through your chosen clinic; The Nuffield Plymouth, or The Duchy, Truro.

Summary

Managing your expectations about plastic surgery is important regardless of which procedure you wish to have done.

Before you go ahead, be sure about your reasons for wanting plastic surgery. Bear in mind the cost, the risks, and the fact the results cannot be guaranteed.

It’s critical to have realistic expectations about plastic surgery, and also to ensure you are on the same page as your surgeon.
