Gender reassignment surgeries are performed on people who identify as transgender.

Are you a good candidate for Gender Reassignment Surgery?

Gender reassignment surgeries are performed on people who identify as transgender. Those who are looking for gender reassignment surgeries should be mentally and physically healthy.

Gender reassignment surgery along with hormone therapy is a methodical process that may take time to develop results.

To ensure your reassignment surgery goes well, it is important that you disclose your medical history during your consultation.

The ideal candidate should:

    • Be 18 years old or older
    • Height to weight ratio should be acceptable
    • Be a non-smoker
    • Not have any complicated medical problems
    • Have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria
    • Underegone pre-surgery counselling

Female to Male Surgery is best performed on someone who is in the best physical shape. On this basis patients will be advised to have stopped smoking and, if necessary, lose weight. A high BMI increases the risks of surgery in general, but specifically the surgical outcomes are far better in those who have attained an ideal weight.

Why choose to have Gender Reassignment Surgery?

Trans-masculine (female to male) patients are looking to change their bodies to match male attributes. These procedures range from creating a flatter chest to adding other male anatomical features.

Gender Reassignment Surgery is a multi-step process where those suffering from gender dysphoria can choose to have surgical procedures done on their chest, genitals, or face to make their bodies match their gender identity.

What are the benefits of Gender Reassignment Surgery?

Research has shown that transgender individuals who choose gender-affirming surgery experience long-term mental health benefits. In one study, a person’s odds of needing mental health treatment declined by 8% each year after the gender-affirming procedure.

Whether you’ve had hormone therapy alone or combined with surgery, the aim is that you no longer have gender dysphoria and feel at ease with your identity.

Benefits include:

    • Improved mental health
    • Less concerned with gender dysphoria
    • Higher self-esteem with body
    • More confidence

Female to Male Chest Reconstruction aims to change the characteristics of a female chest to that of a specific gender identity such as a male or a non-binary individual.

What’s involved in a Gender Reassignment Surgery consultation?

All patients will undergo some form of pre-operative assessment, and we may need you to engage with your general practitioner to optimise any medications.

You’ll have the chance to be open about your transition process and surgical goals. All patients will undergo a pre-operative assessment, and we may need you to engage with your General Practitioner to optimise any medications.

Mr Fitton will always consult with his patients prior to undertaking a treatment. And, will ask to see his patients on, at least, two occasions before operating.a

What do I need to do before Gender Reassignment Surgery?

Patients should first undergo hormone therapy. It is often the end of a process of transition that begins with superficial changes, such as clothes, makeup and hair and continues with hormone therapy.

These hormones are designed to suppress the sex characteristics of the biological gender and enhance the attributes of the patient’s desired sex. For example, trans-men will take androgens to start developing facial hair.

What can I expect with the procedure?

FEMALE TO MALE / NON-BINARY TOP SURGERY

Females can expect stronger and chiselled contours more in keeping with a male face. Plastic surgery can reduce smooth contours and enhance masculine lines in the face. Some operations include facial implants and rhinoplasty (nose reshaping).

Different cosmetic procedures focus on the breast to create and accentuate the male body. Options comprise of mammoplasty (breast reduction) and mastectomy (breast removal).

It is very important that you have a realistic attitude of what female to male chest reconstruction surgery can achieve and to be prepared to accept varying degrees of scarring, loss of sensation (especially in your nipples) and irregularity or asymmetry./

How to pay for private Gender Reassignment Surgery

Private surgery is significantly quicker which is why many people choose to undergo their Gender Reassignment Surgery privately.

The cost of female to male surgery is expensive but can easily be covered by finance; a great way to spread the cost of your surgery and means when you’ve made up your mind to have surgery you don’t need to wait.

To make it easy we’ve teamed up with Nuffield Health Plymouth and Duchy Hospital Cornwall so you can quickly and easily apply for finance. Mr Fitton will discuss the costs prior to the operation.
