Complete Guide to Brachioplasty Surgery
Do you want to feel confident and love your upper arms again?
Brachioplasty, arm lift or bingo wing removal is a type of plastic surgery to improve the shape of your arm.
To achieve a long-lasting, smoother and firmer upper arm profile, removal of the fat and excess loose skin from your arm area will be essential in achieving this.
Below, we cover information about this life-changing plastic surgery procedure.
Mr Fitton will remove fat and excess loose skin from your arm area. This is done to create an upper arm profile that is smoother & firmer than your previous silhouette. This type of plastic surgery on the arm is long-lasting. Liposuction is usually performed in conjunction with an arm lift to improve the overall contours of the arms.
A brachioplasty helps improve the tone and definition in your upper arms by:
- Reducing pockets of fat
- Removing excess skin
- Tightening supportive tissue
- Smoothing over remaining skin
Would I benefit from an arm lift?
You may benefit from brachioplasty surgery if your upper arms are drooping or sagging. This area may take on a batwing-like appearance with a flap of skin that hangs down when you raise your arms.
This may occur due to:
- Changes in skin elasticity that occur with age
- Losing a lot of weight
- Having genetic factors that cause your skin to sag
- Upper limb lymphoedema
Mr Fitton will remove fat and excess loose skin from your arm area to create an upper arm profile that is smoother & firmer than your previous silhouette.
How to prepare for arm lift surgery
If you decide to have arm lift surgery with Mr Fitton, he will ensure you have at least two consultations before the operation takes place. During these initial meetings, Mr Fitton will discuss what will happen before, during and after the removal of your bingo wings.
He will also prepare you for any pain you might feel after coming out of the theatre. He will assess your overall health and suggest the best course of treatment for your individual needs.
Mr Fitton will assess your arms and use a special marker pen to draw the position of the intended surgical cuts on your body.
Other considerations may include:
- You should stop smoking 10 weeks prior to surgery to aid your healing rate.
- It is advised that you stop taking the contraceptive pill four to six weeks prior to surgery to reduce the chances of suffering from thrombosis. If necessary, use an alternative method of contraception during this time.
What happens during a brachioplasty?
Mr Fitton will make precise cuts along the inside of the arms before carefully removing the excess skin that hangs underneath the arms. The skin is then stitched back into place.
In some cases, liposuction will also used to remove any excess fat and sculpt the shape of the arms. Mr Fitton will try to place the cut (scar) lines with the natural contours of the arm so they are as hidden as possible.
Brachioplasty surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes one to two hours. You will be required to stay in the hospital overnight to check everything is okay.
You will have a choice of having both consultation and treatment at either the Nuffield Health Hospital, Plymouth or the Duchy Hospital, Truro.
Plastic Surgery Finance Options
Plastic surgery finance options vary depending on the clinic or facility you choose, but generally include payment plans and financing through third-party lenders.
These plans can allow you to pay for your procedure through manageable monthly payments rather than a lump sum upfront.
To make it easy, we’ve teamed up with Nuffield Health Plymouth and Duchy Hospital Cornwall so you can quickly and easily apply for a loan.
The price you are given at the time of consultation will include everything from the procedure itself, to the cost of your overnight stay and aftercare appointments.
